Haywood County (North Carolina)

Haywood County is a county located in the state of North Carolina of the United States. In 2000, the County had 54 033 inhabitants and a population density of 38 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Waynesville, which was named after General Anthony Wayne.

Geography

The County is located in western North Carolina, bounded on the north by Tennessee, is located in the south about 40 km from Georgia and South Carolina and has an area of ​​1436 square kilometers, of which 2 square kilometers is water area. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Madison County, Buncombe County, Transylvania County, Jackson County and Swain County.

History

Haywood County was formed in 1808 from parts of Buncombe County. It was named for John Haywood, a U.S. politician and Minister of Finance.
