Brunswick County (North Carolina)

Brunswick County is a county located in the state of North Carolina of the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Bolivia.

Geography

The County is located in the extreme southeastern North Carolina, bordered by the Atlantic Ocean, to the northwest by South Carolina and has an area of 2720 square kilometers, of which 506 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Pender County, New Hanover County and Columbus County.

Brunswick County is divided into six townships: Lockwood Folly, North West, Shallotte, Smithville, Town Creek, and Waccamaw.

History

Brunswick County was formed in 1764 from parts of Bladen County and New Hanover County. It was named after George I, from 1714 King of Great Britain and Ireland, born in Hanover Duke of Brunswick- Lüneburg.
