Jones County (North Carolina)

Jones County is a county located in the state of North Carolina of the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Trenton, which was named after the River Trent.

Geography

The County is located in southeastern North Carolina, is about 25 km from the Atlantic Ocean and has an area of ​​1226 square kilometers, of which 4 square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Craven County, Carteret County, Onslow County, Duplin County and Lenoir County.

Jones County is divided into seven numbered townships: 1 ( White Oak ), 2 ( Pollocksville ), 3 ( Trenton), 4 ( Cypress Creek ), 5 ( Tuckahoe ), 6 ( Chinquapin ) and 7 (Beaver Creek ).

History

Jones County was formed in 1778 from parts of Craven County. It was named for Willie Jones, a leader in the American War of Independence.
