Halifax County is a county located in the U.S. state of North Carolina of the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Halifax.

Geography

The County is located in northeastern North Carolina, adjacent to the northernmost corner of Virginia and has an area of ​​1894 square kilometers, of which 16 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Northampton County, Bertie County, Martin County, Edgecombe County, Nash County and Warren County.

History

Halifax County was formed in 1758 from parts of Edgecombe County. It was named, as is the district capital of Halifax, to George Montagu - Dunk, 2nd Earl of Halifax.
