John V. Tunney

John Varick Tunney ( born June 26, 1934 in New York City, New York) is an American politician who represented the state of California in both chambers of Congress.

Biography

Early life

John Tunney was born the second oldest of four children of the boxing world champion Gene Tunney (1897-1978) and his wife Polly in New York. He has one older and two younger brothers and a younger sister.

He graduated in 1956 from Yale University and attended for one year until 1957, the Hague Academy of International Law in The Hague, Netherlands. 1959 Tunney made ​​his law degree at the University of Virginia and began practicing law then in New York. Here he shared with Edward Kennedy a room, the younger brother of future U.S. President John F. Kennedy and later U.S. Senator from Massachusetts.

Political career

The early 1960s, Tunney undertook for the United States Air Force ( USAF) and served as a judicial advisor until he was dismissed in April 1963 at the rank of captain. Parallel to his service with the USAF, he taught 1961-1962 Commercial Law at the University of California at Riverside. Opened in 1963 Tunney a law firm in California and was a member of the Democratic Party.

Tunney returned to Los Angeles and continue practicing as a lawyer. He now lives in Beverly Hills.
