Roman Catholic Archdiocese of San Francisco

The Archdiocese located in the United States, San Francisco (Latin: Sancti Francisci Archidioecesis in California) is a diocese of the Roman Catholic Church. It was on July 29, 1853 released from the Monterey diocese as archbishop.

The Archbishop of San Francisco, the auxiliary bishop in his diocese a standing to the side, is Metropolitan of the dioceses of Honolulu, Sacramento, Oakland, Santa Rosa, Stockton, Las Vegas, Reno and San Jose.

To the territory of the Archdiocese today include the city of San Francisco and the counties of San Francisco, Marin and San Mateo.

History

After September 27, 1860, Apostolic Vicariate of Marysville had been released from the Archdiocese, there was on May 28, 1886 from some territories to the newly founded Diocese of Sacramento, 1887, the separation of the Apostolic Vicariate of Utah.

On January 13, 1962, the dioceses of Oakland and Santa Rosa were founded on his diocesan territory as an independent dioceses. At the same time, some areas of the new Diocese of Stockton have been assigned.

On January 27, 1981, the Diocese of San Jose was founded in California in areas of the Archdiocese of San Francisco.

The diocese area today includes only San Francisco and the counties San Mateo and Marin.
