2003 World Championships in Athletics
The 9th IAAF World Championships ( officially: 9th IAAF World Championships in Athletics Paris 2003) found from 23 to 31 August 2003 in the French town of Saint- Denis instead. The competitions were held to two finals in the biggest and most modern stadium in France, Stade de France, where five years earlier held the final of the football World Cup in 1998.

Overview
The only competitions that took place in Paris itself, were the two marathons at the end weekend of the championships. It was completed in the downtown area along the Champs de Elysees several times a round course, before the athletes then ran to the finish line in the Stade de France.
In total, at the ninth World Championships 1679 athletes from 198 countries took part. The World Championships of Paris found as location determination, a year before the Summer Olympic Games in Athens 2004.

The finale originally won the U.S. relay team with a time of 2:58,98 min. The gold medal was stripped of her after Calvin Harrison was retrospectively banned in 2004 from June 21, 2003 due to doping.
