Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Omaha

Located in the United States Archdiocese of Omaha (Latin: Archidioecesis Omahensis ) is a diocese of the Roman Catholic church located in Omaha, Nebraska.

History

The Archdiocese of Omaha finds its beginnings in the Apostolic Vicariate of Indian Territory East of the Rocky Mountains, from which it was removed on January 6, 1857 as Apostolic Prefecture of Nebraska. After it had lost in 1833 Idaho, it was raised on October 2, 1885 and placed under the diocese as suffragan to the Archdiocese of Dubuque. Two years later, in 1887, the dioceses Cayenne and Lincoln have been extracted from him and 1912 and the Diocese of Kearney. On August 4, 1945 Omaha was elevated to an archdiocese with Metropolitan seat.
