Gondwana Rainforests

The Gondwana Rainforests of Australia (English Gondwana Rainforests of Australia, to 2007 Central Eastern Rainforest Reserves ) are on the borderline of the two ostaustralischen states of New South Wales and Queensland. In 1986, the rainforest areas were recorded in the north of New South Wales in the list of UNESCO world heritage and other national parks in the rain forests were also entered in the Australian National Heritage List. In 1994, the World Heritage Site on the more northern areas of Queensland has been extended. They include several protected areas, where shield volcanoes are found and a large number of rare and endangered species of the rainforest.

UNESCO World Heritage

The name Gondwana Rainforests derived from the super-continent Gondwana, since the present vegetation of the rain forest includes species whose existence could be demonstrated from the fossil plant finds early as the time of Gondwana. These include, for example, Podocarpus, note book and Araucaria, which grew even in the days of Jurassic and Cretaceous.
