Utah Grizzlies (1995–2005)

The Utah Grizzlies were an ice hockey team in the International Hockey League and the American Hockey League, which was based in Salt Lake City in the E Center.

History

In Salt Lake City 1984-1994 were the Salt Lake Golden Eagles native who played in the IHL and moved to Detroit in 1994. The Utah Grizzlies went from the relocation of the Grizzlies Denver to Salt Lake City show. This location change was necessitated by the relocation of the Quebec Nordiques to Colorado playing in Denver in 1995 as Colorado Avalanche.

In the first year of the franchise, the Grizzlies won the Turner Cup, the championship trophy of the IHL. Even after moving to Denver to the team's success continued. In the playoff finals, the Grizzlies, the Orlando Solar Bears defeated 4-0 and thus won the Turner Cup of the season 1995 /96 apply. The fourth game of the best- of-seven series was held at the Delta Center, where 17,381 spectators witnessed the title of the Grizzlies and thus set a record attendance for minor league hockey games.

After the dissolution of IHL 2001, the Grizzlies were included in the AHL, but could not build on the successes of the IHL. For the 2005/ 06 season, the management of the Grizzlies requested the voluntary withdrawal of the team from the AHL to find a new owner for the franchise. In March 2006, Dan Gilbert, the new owner of the franchise, who also owns the NBA franchise the Cleveland Cavaliers, before his plans for the relocation of the Grizzlies to Cleveland. In Cleveland until 2006, the Cleveland Barons had played. Under the new name Lake Erie Monsters the former Grizzlies took the AHL season 2007/ 08 in attack.
