Philip S. Post

Philip Sidney Post ( born March 19, 1833 in Florida, Orange County, New York, † January 6, 1895 in Galesburg, Illinois) was an American General, diplomat and politician.

Life

Philip S. Post worked after his studies at Union College in Schenectady and Poughkeepsie Law School, first as a lawyer and newspaper editor in Kansas. At the beginning of the Civil War, he joined the U.S. Army ( Union Army ) in, served until the end of the war, mainly on the front and eventually rose to become a general. For his service at the Battle of Nashville, he received the Medal of Honor

Post, member of the Republican Party was, from 1866 Consul in Vienna and from 1874 to 1879 as Consul General in charge of Austria - Hungary. From 1887 to 1895 he belonged to the House of Representatives of the United States as the representative of the State of Illinois.
