Tom Corcoran (politician)

Thomas Joseph "Tom" Corcoran (* May 23, 1939 in Ottawa, Illinois) is an American politician. Between 1977 and 1984 he represented the state of Illinois in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Tom Corcoran attended the public schools of his home, including the Marquette High School, where he graduated in 1957. Then he studied until 1961 at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana and then to 1962 at the University of Illinois and by 1963 at the University of Chicago. Between 1963 and 1965, Corcoran served in the U.S. Army. After his military service, he finished his studies in 1967 at Northwestern University. At the same time he proposed as a member of the Republican Party launched a political career. Between 1969 and 1972 he headed the mission of the State of Illinois in the federal capital, Washington DC In the years 1973 and 1974 he worked for the President of the Senate from Illinois. From 1974 to 1976 he was Vice President of the Company Chicago Northwestern Transportation Co.

In the congressional elections of 1976, Corcoran was elected in the 15th electoral district of Illinois in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington, where he became the successor of Tim Lee Hall on January 3, 1977. After three re- elections he could remain until his resignation on 28 November 1984 at the Congress. Since 1983 he represented there as the successor of John N. Erlenborn the 14th arrondissement in his state. In 1984, Corcoran competed unsuccessfully for his party's nomination for election to the U.S. Senate. In 1984 and 1985 he was a board member of the then defunct United States Synthetic Fuels Corporation.
