The list of districts in India gives an overview of the districts in India. The data on population and population density based on the last census in 2011.

At the time of census 2011, there were 640 districts in India. Since then, the number has increased by at least 659 start-ups. With regard to size, population and population density of the districts there are large differences. The largest area district is Leh in Jammu and Kashmir with 49,035 square kilometers, the smallest Mahé in Pondicherry with 9 square kilometers. Most people live in Thane in Maharashtra with 11,054,131, the fewest Dibang Valley in Arunachal Pradesh with 7,948. Dibang Valley is at the same time with only one inhabitant per square kilometer of the most sparsely populated district of India. The highest population density is North East Delhi with 37 346 inhabitants per square kilometer. Most districts, the state of Uttar Pradesh with 75, the fewest Goa with two. The Union Territories Chandigarh, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Lakshadweep are not further subdivided and each as a district are counted here.
