List of National highways of Japan

This is a list of Japanese National Roads (Japanese一般 国 道, ippan Kokudo ).

History

The national roads were introduced in 1952 by the Doro hō (道路 法, "Street Law"). This national roads (二级 国 道, Nikyu Kokudo ) were first order (一级 国 道, Ikkyu Kokudo ) and 2nd order introduced, where for the former the numbers are from 1 to 100 and reserved for second consists from 101 was with this revision of the law in 1965 classification revoked, where the streets but their numbers kept. The first national roads had the numbers 1-57 and 101-271. 1970 were added No. 272-328, 1972 No. 58 and No. 329-332, 1975 No. 333-390, 391-449 No. 1982 and 1993 No. 450-507. With the exception of National Road 58 therefore, all national roads under 100 former national roads first order conditions for introduction of new national roads, the numbers have been incremented, so that there is no national roads 59-100. National Road 58, it forms an exception as it was formed after the return of Okinawa to Japan from the mechanism created by the U.S. administration for troop transports Highway No.1, which became the main trunk road of the island.
