Super Cup 1972

The first playout of the competition was held between the winners of the European Cup of Champions 1971/72 Ajax Amsterdam and the winner of the European Cup Winners' Cup 1971/72 Glasgow Rangers in January 1973. The game, however, was not discharged under the care of UEFA, but due to an agreement between the two clubs on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Glasgow Rangers and was supported by the Dutch newspaper " De Telegraaf " who donated the trophy.
